Before I give updates on the vegetables, I'd like to say a big thanks to everyone who visited us at the Lido on Saturday. It's early days, but we believe that it is going to work well to deliver website orders on a Friday, and then have our physical stall on a Saturday.

For our friends in Seaford, please be advised that due to popular demand, you are now back in our delivery area.

Golly it was hot earlier this week!

It has been great to see everyone enjoying the weather, especially the kids on their half terms, but

unfortunately, some of our vegetables (and fruit) did not fare too well....

The radish has gone to seed (bolted)

But radish hasn't proved to be very popular, so we can cope

The overwintering onions have gone to seed

But we have another crop planted earlier this year, so that's ok

Salad onions have also gone to seed, and unfortunately their replacement is still a way off. Impressive flowerhead though

All the seeds that I sowed last week (kale, cavolo, broccoli) boiled rather than germinated, so those have been sown again this afternoon

The really bad news though, is that just as they were getting ready to harvest, some of the green sprouting broccoli have started going to seed. I have done three sowings, each a few weeks apart. Some of the plants from each of the sowings have all gone to seed 🤦‍♂️😢😢

I need to assess whether the whole crop is doomed

The other bad news is that a lot of the strawberries that were in the polytunnel have cooked. They have since been moved outside under netting but such a shame

Some are still doing ok

In hindsight, I could have avoided the strawberry and seed damage. That said, with hindsight, I might not have started this crazy venture in the first place! 😉

Let's come away from the doom and gloom and focus on some positives.

The tomatoes are doing nicely.

They were in desperate need of pruning regardless of the weather, so I had to spend two and a half hours working on them in the polytunnel earlier in the week. When I emerged, it must have looked like I had stepped out of a sauna! ( I was thinking that I looked like the guys in the volleyball scene in the first Top Gun film, but Issy was quick to let me know that I bore more resemblance to the ball than Tom Cruise or Iceman)

The potatoes are doing very well, and we will get the new potatoes onto the website next week

The beetroot is growing beautifully and is back on the website

Cauliflowers are also doing well and we have some ready to harvest

We have also added Cavolo Nero to our availability with a view to Kale joining from next week

Carrots are probably a couple of weeks away

If you've got this far then you will be relieved to know that's it for the week!

Feedback and actions

Last week we asked for feedback on two questions: 1) Despite the fact that our customer base has increased, our microgreen sales have decreased. Are they considered a "nice to have"? Are they too exp
