5th October
Last week I asked for some feedback about our microgreens and offerings generally. I was delighted by the number of replies and have added a separate blog to summarise the responses and indicate the actions that we intend to take.
So a relatively short main blog this week, and let's start with a new offering. We have added radicchio leaves

And as a by product we have added a radicchio and lettuce mixture

Out on the field, our brussels sprouts have been netted ever since they were planted a few months back, and were looking rather squashed

I figure that the cabbage whites have now had their time, and these chicks need to be allowed to spread their wings. Hence the netting was removed

It was then time for a short back and sides, well a trimming of the lower leaves

They all looked a bit disheveled at first, but a couple of days later they are looking very smart

Well at least the sprout tops are. I need the sprouts themselves to get going!
The early purple sprouting was also released from its netting. These should be providing us with purple sprouting early next spring, and the plants are looking very healthy

Our current crop of spinach on the other hand has been looking rather tired, so it was time to give this a couple of weeks off so that it can return fully rejuvenated.
As we have done previously, it was time to cut it back to allow a fesh version to grow back

We also have a couple of new crops where the seedlings are doing rather well. This is the same variety

And this is a new variety which seems to be slightly ahead

A similar story with the chard. Cut right back

And then a race against the new sowing

I need to get the garlic planted this week, and that will be the last of the direct sowings
That's it for this week, time for some food.
I will continue with the bought in potatoes. I've found that they do need a bit of trimming, but they do taste good!
