A short blog this week, and let's start with a new arrival:

BAMBINO SALAD POTATOES!!

Salad potatoes are typically grown early in the season, but you can also try them later in the year, so this was a bit of an experiment. I planted some Charlotte potatoes at the same time which don't seem to be doing so well, so let's enjoy these Bambinos and we'll update on the Charlottes next week.

I showcased some organic red potatoes last week that had been bought in from Boathouse Farm near Lewes, and my assessment was that they do need a bit cutting off, but taste really good.

I've also got some whites in now from the same farm. These are looking even better, and I will be baking this fine specimen for dinner tonight:

Lots of butter and cheese to be added...

"Sounds nice, but that won't give you all your nutrients" I hear you say.

Fear not for this will be served with a generous handful of mixed radish microgreens, so I will be getting all the nutrients that I need to make me big and strong and full of energy!

On that note, we have added a fact sheet to the radish microgreens on the website this week including recipe ideas and storage suggestions.

We will do something similar with the nutrition rich as well.

On to another bit of news that has nothing to do with vegetables but nonetheless, I'm super excited about.

I have a meeting down at the Lido tomorrow to talk about having a baker join us on a Saturday morning. I've seen her menu, and it all looks absolutely delicious.

I can't really say more than that at the moment but will update as soon as I have more news (which should be really soon!)

We are also looking for an organic butcher to join us, so if anyone has any suggestions, please do let me know.

Back to the veggies, and I've been busy as always on the field.

Lots of weeding as the weeds have really been growing vigorously of late! So no photos to show for that as that would be too boring even by my standards.

The only photos from the field this week relate to the brussels sprouts. I mentioned last week that I had uncovered and trimmed the sprouts to try and get the last of the whitefly off them. They have really benefitted from this and the sprout heads are looking marvellous

Until they are attacked by pigeons that is

Netting cover has gone back on again 🤦‍♂️

Away from the field, I have done the final pricking out of the calendar year, and these

winter density lettuce will soon be ready for planting out

As will these winter purslane

So, along with the spinach, lamb's lettuce and chard we will hopefully have lots of leaves to keep us all going over the winter, along with the rest of the veg.

Gotta go, that jacket spud must be ready by now 😃

Feedback and actions

Last week we asked for feedback on two questions: 1) Despite the fact that our customer base has increased, our microgreen sales have decreased. Are they considered a "nice to have"? Are they too exp
